Pepsi the Ratter

Pepsi has been fixed to a post alongside her owner whilst the family watch the Corso (parade) at the Fete du Citron in Menton.

She's ten years old - her owner told me she's a good ratter. She lives in the Luberon, a beautiful part of Provence.

Suni from Hungary

A lot of people, including this dog, are in Monaco for the Monte Carlo rally.

Meet Suni. She's two years old and from Hungary. Isn't she gorgeous. She was walking in the port yesterday with her young owners who were enjoying the spectacle of the luxury yachts.

The Christmas Dog

Happy Christmas everyone! This is one of four dogs in the Jardin Bioves in Menton, bringing you a nice pressie! When I took this photo, the sun was shining. Since then we've had endless heavy rain for days and he now looks somewhat bedraggled!

Have a great day and thank you so much for your visits to this this blog. Woof woof!

Mermoz

This leggy pup of 5 months lives in Nice although I met him walking along the old port in Menton. He looks to be what they call a Griffon-type dog in France but perhaps he's a specific breed and I forgot to write it down.

Look how kind his eyes are - he'll grow to be a wise ol' dog one day.

Dunya

Meet Dunya. She's a 7 year old mix of labrador and German Short-haired Pointer. She was re-homed from a Belgian refuge 6 years ago and now lives between her homes in Brussels and in Menton. Here she is outside the church in Gorbio village.

Black dogs are so difficult to photograph but the light was just right today - I must bottle this light and treasure it!

Isn't she gorgeous.

You can find another photograph of Dunya on Menton Daily Photo.

Nager

This lovely dog is a mix of a collie, a hunting dog and a setter. He was rescued from an SPA in the Pyrénées and now lives in Monaco. Some dogs have all the luck!

Nager is 4 years old and I met him at the recent garden fair in Menton. In the smaller photo you see him amongst the water lilies!

You might note the rather smart silver bone hanging from his collar. This is a container for small plastic bags that his owner uses to pick up his poop should he happen to 'go' in public.

Moustique

Moustique = mosquito! Don't you love it! This little boy is one and a half years old and was found in the Refuge in La Brigue, which is in the mountains above Menton. I met him today at the Blessing of the Animals in Gorbio village.

Moustique lives in Menton with another dog we've met here before - Willy, who drives around with his owner on her scooter.

The Flower Dog

More flowers than dogs today!

A hot day at Monaco's market in Place d'Armes and none of the dogs were interested in posing.

This one is doubtless wondering why on earth his owner is taking so long at the flower stall. I've a feeling he might have perked up had it been at the meat counter.

Woody

The truth is that this dog at Port Hercule in Monaco was really far too hot to photograph. His owners were happy for him to pose and he wanted to please but he was one hot dog.

Woody is a cross between a Husky and a German Shepherd Dog. He's two years old and lives in Berlin. As you can see he only put his ears up on one occasion - all the time asking 'Do I really have to do this?' Such a lovely kind dog.

Tess - thrown in a bin at one day old!

About three years ago four puppies - only one day old - were found in a rubbish bin in Grasse. The lady who found them was pregnant, so no easy task to hand-rear the pups but she did. Some members of the British community contributed to the buying of special milk etc and then at four weeks old the pups went to their new homes.

With no mother to train them they don't react quite like normal dogs. I've cared for two of them now at Pension Milou and both share similar characteristics. They are needy, incredibly hyper but adorable, they can open every door in the place (grrrr...) and they bark like crazy if other dogs play but they'll run for a ball endlessly. They have to be temped to eat at first but later they do well. They seem to be a mix of pointer - perhaps there is some whippet with that tuck-up. I don't know about those ears tho and the undershot jaw.

This is Tess, who lives with a guy and his wife-to-be, both of whom work on yachts in the south of France. They adore her. Lucky Tess eh?

The Saint Pierre dog

This little dog took part in the Festival of Saint Pierre recently - St. Peter being the patron saint of fishermen. Above and left he is on a boat waiting to go out into the bay where the priest will bless the fisherman who have died at sea.

In the photo below he's waiting - in his owner's arms - for the procession to arrive. You can follow this topic on Menton Daily Photo.

Battle of Wills

This photo was on Menton Daily Photo the other day (the subject was 'reflections') but I thought it might be of interest to readers of Riviera Dogs if they hadn't seen it.

The dog had picked up the wing of a seabird and his owner is trying to make him drop it. Eventually he succeeded - with difficulty!

Wolf

This old dog lives in the Old Town of Ventimiglia. Bare patches on his skin, perhaps he has leishmaniosis or perhaps he's just old - which he is - he's 13.

To see the whole street where he lives - and it's a wonderful Old Town - do click on Menton Daily Photo today.

The Handover

This looks like one lucky puppy who has landed on his feet, don't you think? I'm not sure if he's a specific breed or not. Not a pointy enough face for a Jack Russell? And he looks young and will grow somewhat bigger.

This 'handover' from mother to daughter took place during the day of Street Theatre in Menton. Click on the link to see more.

Street Theatre - Dog Watch

When your owners are sitting on the Place du Cap in Menton watching Kids' Street Theatre the only place to be is tucked up at the back and ignore the whole thing...

The Monaco Grand Prix Ferrari Dog

You might have noticed that yesterday was the Monaco Grand Prix when the world descends on the Principality. So no surprise this dog did too.

She's called Ebony and along with her Australian owner has been travelling around the world in a camper van for 3 years. She was rescued from the Washington State Shelter where she was one day from being euthanized. She's crossed the Atlantic 4 times so she's well up to wearing a Ferrari t-shirt and posing for admirers by the Ferraris on display in rue Princesse Caroline.

The Comfy Corner

Dogs have that wonderful ability to make themselves comfortable in any corner, don't they? This dog is tucked up close to the wall of the bar, near to his owner of course - and patiently waiting whilst she has her coffee and chats to a friend who stopped by her table.

The Apricale Dog

We are in Apricale, a medieval hill village in Italy - about 28 kilometres from Menton. This dog is walking down the village pretty quickly and I wasn't fast enough - he's slightly blurry in the main photo but you get the feel of him, I think. A hunting dog, nose down, intent on where he's going.

In the small pic you see me attempting to take his photo - this was taken by the delightful Nathalie from Avignon who was visiting for the weekend.

The eyes have it

Naturally when one dog looks right, the other one decides to face the other way! So we have two photographs. These two dogs were at the May 1st Brocante in Menton. I don't know their names - their owners were busy buying stuff. I loved the look in this brown dog's eye - we met, I asked him to pose - he did - I thanked him and I left... Just look at those eyes.

Yopi and Janus

It'll be the Historique Grand Prix in Monaco this weekend and wandering around photographing the beautiful old cars, I came across these two lovely dogs. They have the most beautiful eyes and I wish the photo was slightly sharper - the sun was too strong for my camera setting. Perhaps I should say my camera setting wasn't right!

The pale one of the left is Yopi, a Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen who is two and a half. The other one, a mix, is Janus and he's 10. Both were found at SPA refuges in France and they live with their very nice Dutch owners in Monaco. They told me that Yopi can get very scared - suddenly scared - and it's probably because of something that occurred in his life earlier. Hopefully he'll grow out of it. He is a beautiful dog, wagging his tail at me - you'd not realise he can be so scared at times.
